It’s a meditative work of art for both the artist and the viewer. Former will, in a way that is central in the practice of creation, channel the inner drives such as curiosity, expression and aesthetic through the concentrated labour of translating feelings into carved materials. And as for the latter, the work of Erb will offer the space to contemplate and muse, introspect and ruminate. Within the reduced, monochromatic black frame, form and texture align to guide and glide the eye through the surface, wander and wonder about the astonishing interplay of the elements between each other, but most importantly in their dynamic interaction with light. Without the dizzying variety of colour, but still rich in the heavy burden of existence, it appears almost ironical to explore light through its absence.

The reduction of noise and the careful, silent study of shape and reflection instead, is only the formal access to read Erbs paintings. What lies deeper, and why I speak of this work as a meditative one, is the search for balance. The fluid and asymmetrical forms are orchestrated in flowy, instersecting constellations, creating so a visual steadiness surprisingly comforting to the eye and soul. The rich dark colour and sharp textures stand in stark contrast to this.
